Punch Art

Where would Punch Art be without Punchies?

Punches are so versatile and with new shapes and sizes coming out all of the time, it's no wonder why this scrapbooking tool is so widely used. Punchies help paper piecings and borders come to life.

Punchin' projects require only a few items such as: punches or pre-made punchies from PaperPunchies.com, acid and lignin free paper, archival quality pens, glue (preferably Zig 2-way glue), some edging scissors and chalk to accentuate your punch art.

You don't have to own hundreds of different punchers to make beautiful punch art. You can do so much if you just have the basic geometric shapes. Some "must have" shapes include circles, squares, ovals, triangles, rectangles, hearts, stars, bears, spirals, leaves and other flower shapes.

How to get started

Here are some great ideas to get you started and keep in mind that the larger sized punched pieces make great title/tile pieces for your layouts. Be sure to use a variety of sizes for all of the shapes listed below:

Circles: every sports ball imaginable, a ton of food ideas such as candy, cookies, pizza, tacos, grapes, oranges, berries, watermelon, apples, fun stuff like bubbles, wheels, eyes, faces, balloons, flowers, animals, teddy bears, owls, frogs, rabbits, caterpillars, bunny tails, paw prints, the sun, the moon, a wreath, ornaments, Christmas lights -- and SO much more.

Squares: gifts or presents, books, building blocks or ABC and 123 blocks.

Ovals: Animal bodies including a bear, bumble bee or cat, wings, flower petals, leaves, heads, shoes, Easter eggs, Christmas lights -- you name it!

Rectangles: combine to make cute trains, piano keys, books of all sizes, cut thin to make stems, flower boxes, cards, body parts such as the torso, arms or legs, you can even make Legos if you just use your imagination.

Hearts: shamrocks and flowers, lips, cut them to make wings or arms and legs, cut them to make patchwork hearts, strawberries, carrots, use on all kinds of themed pages from love to engagement to wedding to baby.

Stars: of course they make for a great night scene, combine them for a fireworks scene and you have a great 4th of July layout, a sheriff's badge, birthday layouts, make arrows, leaves and flower pedals, a flag -- you name it!

Bears: dress them up for any occasion by adding bows, collars, dresses, shirts, pj's, even a bathing suit, great for baby or child layouts, birthday's, gingerbread men or snowmen and the sitting down bear makes a great Winnie the Pooh.

Spirals: great for hair, antennae's, tongues, tails, flower vines and stems, great for birthday or any party themed page and use them for fireworks too.

Leaves: flowers and plants, vines, cut them to make wings, flames for your campfire, a pile of them for your Fall fun designs -- and much more!
